The particle surface is an illustration; the rings are real cells.

Lights on a fiber follow this cell’s exact per-second counts (one light per envelope, or per several when busy). Lights on arcs replay the last counted 15-minute block, sped up 15 times. Drag the sphere to spin it.Drag to rotate.

      Step 1 · Activate

      Activate this cell

Link this cell to your Midnight Select account. Its online hours then count toward the Cell operator certification and DUST sponsorship.

      1. 1Open Midnight Select on your phone.
      2. 2Go to You › Network › Run a cell › Activate a cell.
      3. 3Scan the code. The app asks you to confirm, and this page turns live within seconds.

Have a typed link code instead?

In the app: You › Network › Run a cell › Get a link code (it lasts 15 minutes). Choose your account's home cell and type the code.

Activating tells your account's home cell which account runs this cell. If you show the Cell operator badge on your profile, people who see it know you run a cell. The code is a one-time secret that lasts 10 minutes; only its fingerprint leaves this computer.

      Your activation code appears here.

      Explained

Midnight, NIGHT and DUST in plain language

      N

      Midnight

A blockchain built for privacy. You choose what to reveal: a proof can show something is true (for example, "this payment is covered") without showing everything behind it.

      N

      NIGHT, the token

Midnight's token. You can hold it and send it. Holding NIGHT does something useful: it generates DUST.

      D

      DUST, the battery

DUST pays for transactions on Midnight. It's shielded (private) and can't be sent to anyone. Think of it as a battery that NIGHT keeps charging: it slowly refills up to a limit set by how much NIGHT backs it.

      Sponsorship

DUST itself can't be given away, but a NIGHT holder can point its DUST generation at someone else's wallet. That is how the Midnight Select Treasury can cover fees for people.

Illustration of how it works, not your balance. Sending ordinary Midnight Select messages never uses DUST.

      Your rewards

How your DUST grows with your help

      1. Your cell stays online. Other cells check it minute by minute.
      2. Your account's home cell counts the hours for the last 30 days.
      3. The Midnight Select Treasury points DUST generation at operators in proportion to counted hours, capped per person.
      4. DUST arrives in your wallet and pays your fees on Midnight.

Sponsorship starts when the Treasury is set up on Midnight's test network.

This cell's counted hours in the last 30 days (a cell online all the time counts 720).

      Example, not your numbers

Midnight's documentation gives this example: 1,000 NIGHT backs up to 5,000 DUST, and the battery takes about a week to fill. When the Treasury sponsors you, its NIGHT does the charging and the DUST lands in your wallet. The sharing rules (caps per person) are published before sponsorship starts.

      How you help the community

What your cell can see, like any mail server: which account a waiting envelope is for and from, when it arrived and how big it is. It keeps no IP-address logs. Running a cell doesn't make anyone anonymous.

      Connected cells

      Your cell's public card

      Cell code
      —
      Cell ID
      —
      Public key
      —

This card is safe to share. When your cell joins the shared network on its own, its ID, coarse region and public key are listed for other cells (people see every cell by a 4-character code made from its ID, never a chosen name); a new cell is "on probation" for its first week, so other cells trust established cells first.
